Raisa Mariam Rajan is an Indian artist and entrepreneur settled in Dubai. Raised in a family that was into business for decades, Raisa had the flair to become an entrepreneur. But the artistic sensibility in her, as a kid was a surprise to the family, and they supported her with all their will. Raisa has been hailed as a prodigy as she used to draw portraits by simply watching people. She could draw effortlessly and this love for art grew with her.

A message from the artisit Raisa Mariam Rajan

“The world around us is growing at a very fast pace but what about the world inside each one of us? In our busy lives, we need certain moments that help us to look inside and ponder deeply to understand ourselves. That is what art does for me. I realize myself, I learn a lot about myself, my capabilities, my interests, my weaknesses, and above all the truth behind my existence as a woman when I paint. It brings out the hitherto unknown “me” from deep within myself.”

Art is a statement.
— Raisa Mariam Rajan

Raisa’s artwork, “Lava” is a perfect example of this. The outpouring of strong emotions in colors leaves Raisa contended and relieved. It acts like a deep meditation, a soul-searching process that plays a pivotal role in shaping herself as a woman. Women around the world are subconsciously programmed to suppress their emotions. They need to express all those subdued emotions and purge themselves. Raisa truly believes in this Cathartic function of art.

I express my thoughts through my paintings that can communicate both to mine and others, about the beauty that exists in nature, which at times we neglect to enjoy.
— RARISA MARIAM RAJAN

Raisa is also an art teacher and has been acclaimed for her role in shaping not only the artistic talents of her students but also their lives in a positive way. A teacher should also be a good mind reader according to Raisa. She instinctively detects the issues faced by her young students through their paintings. Her timely recommendations have helped a lot of parents in successfully helping their children get out of their inhibitions and traumas.

Raisa strongly believes that criticism has played a great role in her growth as an artist. This reflects in the progress she has achieved in two years since she started doing art professionally. Being the CEO of a company, events and meetings keep her busy, but Raisa finds time to paint almost every day to keep her passion alive. She believes that hard work, determination, and firm belief in oneself can lead to success.

her journey as an artist

Raisa started her journey as an artist by drawing portraits, glass paintings, sketches, and acrylic paintings on canvas. It later became a space to experiment with different mediums and textures on various surfaces. For Raisa, art is a powerful medium to express herself. She likes to make strong statements on society, life, and the events that happen around her through her works. The consciousness being stirred by the emotions that spring out of the psyche often flows out without considering the chronology of the events. They get mixed up and find their way out through Raisa’s brush. Hence, she calls them products of Stream of Consciousness.

A mother’s aura is powerful enough to shield her child from all the negative energy.I was inspired to do this artwork by my mother who has protected , guided, strengthened and taught me to be courageous, bold and beautiful.

I have incorporated the five elements of life - sky, air, water, fire and earth. Each color in the painting represents each element of life and the purple color symbolizes the way a child is protected in a mothers womb which is also an aura securing and showing that nothing is greater than a mother’s love .

Purple also stands for the pride of a mother. A mother’s heart is no longer her’s because her heart wanders wherever her child is the connection between them is seen as a hidden gem . A mother’s love is unconditional and its her prayers which is the aura that’s guarding us throughout our life.

Beach symbolizes openness. I represent my beach painting with a buoyant feeling where one’s eyes gives a relaxed and calmness to their mind and soul. I have used different colors paste to create the texture feeling on the shores of the beach. Shells and stones give a natural effect to the painting in order to touch the viewers mind. My aim to create this art piece was to originate the love for nature and sense of energetic and having an open mind like an ocean with no boundaries to love, care, happiness, harmony and peace.

The abstract painting of the beach was inspired to create a serenity in my artwork for the spectator. I have used colors to bring out a positivity, joyful and colorful inner minds which is hidden in every person. Each time the eyes are splashed on my painting I aim to create an ingenuous mind. I have used brass in alcohol painting to instigate a shine in every human beings life. The indigo color represents the double shaded life of a human which can be interpreted in many ways. The light blue indicates the serenity in the mid of two bright side of the life.

An igneous stream of mind speaks about freedom of expression. Let your thoughts be like a force of nature which cannot be held within but explodes by expressing your feelings, emotions . Our minds resembles lava which is natural phenomenon and mother nature teaches us about letting go of our circumvention. The black color represents the healing of our wounds after its exploded from our minds like a lava exploding from its magma . When the lava is detonated its in fire but later there is a healing process which our minds go through. We humans tend to keep our thoughts to ourselves rather speaking it out. I would like to convey a message through my artwork that its time we humans speak to each other and live in harmony.
